JAMMU, Nov 23: Shri Mahalaxmi Mandir Traders Association at Pacca Danga here today staged a protest demonstration against the construction of footpaths in the old city.
The protesters claimed that under smart city project the concerned authorities are constructing five feet footpaths on both sides of the road in old Jammu city.

“If this happens then only 15 ft road will remain which after parking two wheelers will leave only 10 feet,” they said adding that it will be tough for the vehicles to ply on such narrow road.
The protesters also said that as water supply pipes and drains will come under the footpaths it will be tough to clean the drains and repair pipes if need for that arises after construction of footpaths.
Many of these protesters claimed that the project of footpaths will fail as it will create many water loggings in the city and flood like situations.
They said that the concerned authorities might have laid fancy tiles on city roads instead.
“None including the local JMC Councillors consulted traders and other locals in this regard,” they maintained adding that they will not allow the footpaths in the city.
The protesters also said that they even met the JMC Mayor in this regard and he assured them all support.
