Trade across LoC

A large number of traders from both sides of the cease fire line met at the LoC trading point at Chakan da Bagh in Poonch District. They were led by senior administrative officers. From our side, Deputy Commissioner Poonch conducted exchange of talks with the delegation from PoK. Both sides expressed desire for finding ways to expand bilateral trade. Both sides agreed that the two governments should be appealed to upgrade trade and transaction by providing them much needed facilities which include a full body truck scanner, international banking system, streamlining telephone connectivity, increase in the number of trucks that would be permitted to cross the check post and many other easements.
It will be remembered that at the time when two countries agreed to conduct trade at two points of the LoC at Chakan da Bagh in Poonch and Salamabad in Uri, the important idea behind the decision was to help create mutual confidence building process so that decades-old acrimony and antagonism is converted into cordiality and mutual trust. We are still hopeful that despite certain undesirable happenings, the two sides will contribute on their level to restoration of normal relations. It is their moral responsibility also and the two governments are committed to normalize relations.
