Tourists cheated

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Don’t cheat tourists’ DE June 15.
As the tourism season is on the peak this summer, tourists in thousands are thronging the State especially the Valley and Katra. They come her  to relax and get soaked in cosy environs of the State. But, their whole charm get spoiled when they come know that have been cheated by service providers-hotliers, houseboat wallas, taxi operators, and pony wallas. Numerous complaints have been reported of cheating tourists. Recently, a Japanese woman was sold fake Pashmina shawl by a trader in Srinagar. She got to know its fakeness only after she developed skin rashes and got it tested from a laboratory. The incident not only shocked her but also brought disrepute to trade practice in the State. If such incidents go unnoticed and unchecked, it will have an adverse effect on tourism sector in the State.
The Tourism Department and the State police will have to keep a strict vigil on the unscrupulous elements. Rather, a special grievance cell should be created where tourists can complain and get redressal of their grievances. These steps have to be taken to ensure a steady flow of tourists to the State.
Yours etc…..
