2 Hizb hybrid militants arrested

SRINAGAR, May 8 : A top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander was among two militants killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district today while two hybrid militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were arrested from Bandipora.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that security forces neutralized two militants including a Pakistani commander Haider in an encounter at Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam.

He said that Haider was active for more than two years in North Kashmir and had recently shifted his base to South Kashmir. “He was part of groups involved in several attacks, civilian atrocities and various killings including recent killings of police personnel Mohammad Sultan and Fayaz Ahmad on 10/11/2021 at Gulshan Chowk Bandipora. Besides, he was also involved in an attack on Naka party near Nishat Park Bandipora in which SPO Zubair Ahmad was killed while as four other security personnel were injured including three police personnel and an ASI of BSF”, he said.
Kumar said that Shahbaz Shah was a hybrid militant and was involved in the killing of a civilian belonging to minority community Satish Kumar Singh last month at Kakran area of Kulgam.
He said that earlier, acting on specific information regarding the presence of militants in Cheyan Devsar area of Kulgam, Police and 9 RR of Army launched a joint cordon  and search operation in the area. “During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was effectively retaliated leading to an encounter. Later, a team of CRPF also joined”, he added.
Both the militants were killed in the encounter that lasted for several hours.
The IGP termed the operation as a big success and congratulated the joint team for conducting successful operation and eliminating Haider.
Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-56 with 4 magazines, one pistol with a magazine, one UBGL, one pouch and ID cards of LeT were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
In the meantime, two hybrid militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were arrested by security from Bandipora today.
Police said that based on a specific input regarding movement of hybrid militants from Bandipora to Srinagar, a joint naka was established near Wullar Vantage Aragam by Bandipora Police, 13RR Army and CRPF.
While conducting search of pedestrians and vehicles, two individuals were observed moving suspiciously in an Alto car (JK13-G 6139), who tried to conceal their identity on seeing the Naka party. On being challenged, the suspicious persons tried to break the checkpoint and were apprehended.
They have been identified as Abid Ali 27 son of Ali Mohammad Parray, of Herpora Achan in Pulwama and Faisal Hassan Parray, 21, son of Ghulam Hassan Parray of Herpora Achan in Pulwama.
During the searches, one AK-47 rifle, two magazines with 30 live rounds, one pistol, one magazine with four live rounds and four pistol fired cases were recovered from them.
A case has been registered against them and further investigation taken up.
