Mishra to meet Scindia on air services

JAMMU, June 5: Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Western Command, Air Marshal Pankaj M Sinha accompanied by Air Commodore AOC 21 Wing Leh DS Handa called on Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Brig (Retired) BD Mishra and discussed with him the issues pertaining to the Union Territory.
Top Air Commanders met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh during his visit to Kargil.
The meeting, which was also attended by Chief Executive Councillor (CEC)-cum-Chairman Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil Feroz Khan and the Deputy Commissioner Kargil, discussed extension of airfield for civil operations with availability of land for the same.
“The operation of C-130 J and the potential increase in the frequency of the C-17 Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft of IAF-MCC for civilian purposes also figured at the meeting,” the officials said.
The Lieutenant Governor announced that he will personally take up important issues related to air services in Kargil with Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia.
LAHDC Kargil chairman Feroz Khan thanked the Indian Air Force (IAF) for operating AN-32 Kargil Courier Service and requested to operate C17 flights in Kargil at least twice a week on Jammu and Srinagar route for the convenience of the passengers from Kargil.
He informed about the availability of land for the extension of the existing airfield at Kargil.
Air Marshall Pankaj Sinha informed that C-130 J Hercules flights can land on the existing runway at Kargil and assured to look into the demand of operating flights on the Jammu-Srinagar route twice a week.

He emphasised the need to simultaneously work on the extension of the existing airfield and the operation of flights for civilians.
Brig Mishra inquired about the progress of the ongoing work on the construction of the new terminal at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport at Leh.
Air Marshall Sinha informed the Lieutenant Governor that the tentative date for the completion of the new terminal at KBR Airport at Leh is 2025 which will result in an increase in air traffic.
Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Ravinder Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Santosh Sukhdeve and other officials from Indian Air Force were present in the meeting.
