JAMMU, May 18: Senior Congress leader and former DDC Suchetgarh Taranjit Singh Tony today launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Central Government, alleging that the country is heading towards an “economic emergency-like situation” due to the `failed policies’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Government.
While interacting with people here today, Tony said the much-publicized slogan of “Acche Din” has completely collapsed and has now turned into “Bure Din” for the common people of the country.
“The people were promised ‘Acche Din’, but today the nation is witnessing ‘Bure Din’ under the Modi Government. Inflation is uncontrollable, unemployment is rising, poverty is increasing and the common man is struggling to survive,” Tony said.
Referring to recent appeals by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding fuel conservation and cutting unnecessary expenses, Tony claimed that such statements expose the seriousness of the economic crisis facing the country.
“When the Prime Minister himself starts asking people to save fuel, avoid unnecessary travel and reduce expenses, it clearly indicates that the Government has failed to manage the economy. People are now being mentally prepared for difficult days ahead,” he said.
Tony alleged that the country is slowly moving towards a “lockdown-like economic atmosphere” where ordinary families are worried about inflation, rising fuel costs and shortage of essentials.
“The BJP Government has pushed the country towards financial uncertainty. Common people are afraid of what lies ahead because prices of fuel, food and daily essentials are continuously rising,” he said.
Launching a sharp attack on the Centre’s economic priorities, Tony accused the BJP Government of favouring big corporate houses while ignoring farmers, labourers and middle-class families.
“Dr. Manmohan Singh managed the economy with experience, wisdom and balance, but the present Government has completely failed in handling inflation, unemployment and economic stability,” he said.
Tony further accused the BJP and RSS of diverting public attention from economic failures through propaganda and political polarization.
