SUCHETGARH, Jan 6: DDC Member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony here today sought immediate removal of anomaly in ex-gratia relief given to victims of accidents and other mishaps and demanded a fixed criteria for the cause of delivering justice to the people of J&K.
In a handout, Tony questioned the logic behind different amounts to the kith and kin of deceased persons who lost lives in mishaps like road accidents, stampede, electrocution, landslides etc.
He appealed to LG’s administration to stop the arbitrariness in the matter and come clear with a predetermined policy by setting up predefined criteria to ensure prevalence of justice which unfortunately is missing presently.
Tony said that the amount given should not be on the whims and fancies of the concerned official rather there should be a proper policy in the matter and all should follow the same leaving no chance for any kind of prejudice or discrimination as the life has an equal value for poor and the elite.
The DDC Member questioned the ex-gratia relief given by LG Manoj Sinha to the people who died in recent stampede at Katra and compared it with ex-gratia given to the deceased who lost life in BRO Bridge mishap in Koulpur, Samba.
He questioned the logic behind disparity in the amount given in both the cases and said that the deceased Madan Lal, resident of Chandu Chak, R.S Pura was given a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh by DC Samba which is far less than the ex-gratia given to those who lost their lives in Katra stampede which is intriguing and the LG’s administration should come up with a reasonable justification in the matter.
He claimed that J&K administration is looking into the ensuing polls in Uttar Pradesh and has given Rs. 10 lakh to Katra stampede deceased’s NoKs and later additional Rs. 5 lakh as most of the victims were from UP.
