SRINAGAR, June 29: Police today seized huge stocks of illicit timber from a tipper at Dardapora, Kupwara.
A police spokesman said that acting on specific information, Kupwara Police intercepted a tipper bearing registration number JK02AS-642 at Dardpora, Kralpora. The tipper was found loaded with illicit timber comprising 40 sleepers of Kail. The tipper was being driven by Javed Ahmad Khan son of Saleem Khan resident of Marsari.
The spokesman said that on preliminary investigations the driver of the vehicle disclosed that the timber belonged to Anwar Shah son of Vilayat Shah resident of Dardpora who was also boarding the vehicle. The vehicle along with timber was seized and the accused were arrested.
