SRINAGAR, May 15: Special Judge NDPS Anantnag Manzoor Ahmed Khan today awarded 10 years Rigorous Imprisonment to Mohammad Rafiq Bhat, his son Anayatullah Bhat, wife Mubeena Banoo, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat and Sajad Ahmad Ganie, who were facing trial in NDPSA case.

On 07.04.2022, Police received information through reliable sources that accused namely Mohammad Raifq Bhat, son of Mohammad Jamal Bhat, Anaytullah Bhat, son of Mohammad Rafiq Bhat, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Mubeena Banoo, wife of Mohammad Rafiq Bhat, all the residents of Soaf Shali Kokernag and Sajad Ahmad Ganie, son of Gull Mohammad Ganie of Hangal Gund Kokernag were selling contraband in a forest area.
Acting swiftly, police rushed to the spot and nabbed all the five persons along with 5 kilograms of charas. After completion of investigation, challan was presented.
After hearing Advocate Tanveer Ahmed Dar for the accused persons whereas APP Arif Maeed Romshoo for the UT, Special Judge NDPS Court Anantnag Manzoor Ahmed Khan observed, “prosecution through oral as well as documentary evidence has proved the guilt of the accused persons beyond any pale of doubt”.
Accordingly, court convicted the accused for committing offences punishable under Section 8/20 read with Section 29 of NDPS Act and awarded 10 years RI. Moreover, court imposed Rs one lakh fine on each.
