JAMMU, July 18: Three entrepreneurs from Jammu participated in India Global Week, an excellent initiative by INDIA INC CORP based in London.
The event with over 75 exhilarating sessions, more than 250 engaging speakers and over 30,000 participants from 76 countries, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
India Global Week saw a stellar line up of speakers which included Piyush Goyal and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. There were many foreign dignitaries like UK Home Minister Priti Patel, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, and a special address by HRH Prince Charles.
The event saw a special forum on Jammu & Kashmir, with a focus on opportunities and local success stories. Manu Khajuria Singh (Founder – VoD), Sahil Verma (Director – PureMart) and Ishan Verma (Director – Jammu Kashmir Startup Association) were the panelists from Jammu.
Manu Khajuria, founder of Voice of Dogras (VoD), spoke about the dangers of a single story on Jammu & Kashmir. She outlined the need for being inclusive and insisted that the story is incomplete if J from the J&K is dropped, as has been the case always. She said that empowerment is about being heard and seen and that is what is needed for the Region from Kathua to Poonch.
The other panelists Sahil Verma and Ishan Verma spoke about the need and importance of startups to build a strong economic ecosystem in J&K and creating job makers, not job seekers. Sahil said, “It’s a great opportunity for the youngster to grab the raw market of J&K and become job creators than job seekers,” he added.
Ishan added that failure of execution of JK Startups Policy 2018 is another major challenge that startups are facing.
JK Startups Association reiterated the need to build a strong support system for entrepreneurs in J&K. They along with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and Technology Business Incubation Centre are working to bring up 100 startups in J&K in the next 1 year and turn J&K into next startup hub.
