Jammu, Dec 12: Three-day series of ‘Navrasas Demonstration’ followed by a scene work ‘The Methods’ concluded here today at Natrang Studio Theatre.
It is pertinent to mention here that these performances were devised during an intensive acting workshop ‘The Thinking Actor’ which was diligently conducted by meritorious NSD alumni Bhasha Sumbli and Sunil Soni at Natrang Jammu and the repeat shows were featured on high public demand.
It was a visual treat to watch the presentations which carried distinctive mark of the innovative directors. Natrang has planned to offer a series of training opportunities to the youth and children by expert resource persons for their overall growth.
The next workshop in the series would be conducted by Aarushi Thakur Rana from 15th of December, 2021.
Prominent among those who were present on the occasion included Seema Anil Sehgal, Dr.Agni Shekhar, Suresh Kumar, Deepali Kanna, P.K.Bhat, Naveen Chopra, Anil Tickoo and Sumeet Sharma.
Today’s show began with an intense nine emotion series called ‘Navras Abhyas’ which was demonstrated beautifully by a batch of nine actors.
The second presentation ‘The Methods’ was based on a story of Anton Chekhov which bares the philosophy and manoeuvres of an expert bachelor seducer, Peter, who demonstrates his foolproof methods to influence the young wife of his close friend, Nikolaich, comparatively a simpleton.
Peter showers adulations on latter’s wife, Irena, in an attempt to secure her, who later gives in but retaining her sobriety and unbending dignity. It is a series of scenes that, give us a strong sense of Chekhov’s take on the human condition. The story exposes the ridiculous, tender, outlandish, ludicrous, innocent, and weird frailties of human beings.
The scene work had 14 actors playing just three characters, as their alter egos, apart from Chekhov, who was the unifying element in the scenes, introducing them, commenting on them, and occasionally playing a role in them, but as a quirky version of the celebrated author.
The artists who participated in the presentation included Mahikshit Singh, Shivam Singh, Priya Sharma, Meenakshi Bhagat, Gautam Sharma, Diksha Pandita, Sagar Gupta, Kushal Bhat, Abhinav Sharma, Bhawani Singh Bali, Kananpreet Kour, Prohitdeep Singh, Bhabik Sambyal and Palshin Dutta. The lights of the play were designed and operated by Bhasha Sumbli.
The sets were designed by Sunil Soni and the sound was operated by Brijesh Avtar Sharma.
The presentation was coordinated by Neeraj Kant and Mohd. Yaseen.
