Three-day-course on juvenile justice concludes at SKPA

UDHAMPUR, Oct 28: A three-day-course on “juvenile justice” at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA) concluded here today, with 19 J&K Police officers in attendance.
A statement said that the primary objective of this course was to sensitize the police officers to the legal provisions safeguarding the children’s rights and the appropriate care of minors when their liberty is restricted.
The participants were also acquainted with the legal provisions related to the child rights in Jammu and Kashmir, in comparison to the national standards, and explored enhanced approaches to handling juveniles.
A valediction ceremony was held at the Academy, with Rajinder Kumar Gupta, SSP, Deputy Director (Indoor), as the chief guest.
During his address, Gupta emphasized the significance of comprehending the conceptual background of child rights and the various aspects of the Juvenile Justice Act. He expressed confidence that this course would greatly benefit the participating officers in protecting the rights of juveniles.
Eminent speakers, including Shalini Sharma, a member of the JJ Board in Jammu, Dr Ankita Choudhary, a child psychologist from the Department of Pediatrics at GMC Doda, Yasman, a member of the JJ Board in Udhampur, and Rahul Raja Sharma, Programme Manager of J&K NGOs, as well as faculty members from the Academia, delivered lectures and shared their valuable experiences with the participants.
The successful coordination of this course was led by Sukhvir Singh, DySP, AD (Admn) at SKPA, with support from Nasser Mehmood Naik, Inspector.
