JAMMU, July 12: As the signature campaign launched by `Sangarsh’ against alleged irregularities and the scholarship scams in Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), entered into its second day, more than five thousand students, scholars and also the members from business community signed the document today thus totaling the number upto 9,374.
In a press statement, Dr Suresh Kumar, general secretary Sangarsh, said that there was a very good response from the people of Peer Panjal area, who have signed in support of their demand for stern action against BGSBU employees who were involved in the scam and other irregularities in the institution. “The way people are extending their support to our struggle is a sign of change they want from this nepotism flourishing in the university,” he said. Dr Suresh further added that the movement would continue its fight until the top guns of the university are dealt with iron hands by the State administration. However, he expressed anguish over the silence observed by the State Government on such a big and burning issue. “This is not simply an issue associated with a university bungling but with the cultural, spiritual and religious faiths of the people of this area,” he said and appealed to the Chancellor of the university to come forward and take action against the accused.
Advocate Shokat Ali, vice-president of Sangarsh, warned the district administration not to harass any member of the movement or any other civil or social organization who are raising the voice against the wrong doings of the university.
In his appeal to the people of Peer Panjal area Advocate Israr Mirza, organizing secretary, district Agoura unit, said that it was not the struggle of any individual but collective fight against those who have demolished image of the university.
