DODA / RAMBAN, Apr 4: Hitting out at National Conference (NC) and Congress, Union Minister and BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Parliamentary constituency, Dr Jitendra Singh today alleged that seeds of communalism were sown by National Conference led by Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah while Congress was responsible for present crisis in Kashmir Valley.
While talking to reporters here this morning, Dr Jitendra Singh said those who played communal politics for decades together are giving sermons of secularism today and accusing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of communalism. Click here to watch video
Sharply reacting to statements of NC president and former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah and senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr Jitendra Singh said it was none other than founder of National Conference late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah who sowed the seeds of communalism in the State by launching the Muslim Conference to wage struggle against the then Hindu ruler of the State.
He said every body in the State is aware how secular role the party played since its inception and 1931 communal riots in Kashmir is a testimony to it when minorities living in the Valley had to bear the brunt of Muslim Conference.
He said Sheikh Abdullah who founded the Muslim Conference later converted it into National Conference (NC) to seek recognition from Election Commission of India (ECI). “To further his communal politics in the State Sheikh floated Plebiscite Front onwards 1952 after he was ousted as PM of the State. This again was done by him to divide the State on communal lines. This was followed by 1987 rigging by then Chief Minister and NC leader Farooq Abdullah which opened flood gates for terrorism,” he added.
He said the last nail put in the coffin by NC was in 1989 and 1990 when the party did nothing to prevent the mass exodus of Pandits from Valley who became direct targets of terrorists and the party’s silence was a testimony to the fact that it was done in connivance with separatists, Dr Jitendra Singh added and advised the NC chief that instead of giving sermons to BJP and teaching it language of secularism, the NC leader should have a self introspection over the role of his party since its inception to ascertain what service it has done to secularism.
Not sparing the Congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad who yesterday said that PM can’t win hearts in Kashmir by using guns, Dr Jitendra Singh said the blunders were committed by Congress since 1947 from the time of Jawahar Lal Nehru and the Modi Government is atoning for these sins now. “Whatever is happening in Kashmir today is due to the mishandling of situation by Congress in past”, he added.
He said had Congress not given PoK to Pakistan on platter and committed blunders in connivance with NC, the situation could not have deteriorated in Kashmir to this extent.
Dr Jitendra Singh said the love -hate policy played by NC and Congress over the years since 1947 has been main cause of Kashmir crisis. The Congress in its rule never adopted a decisive policy on Kashmir and only indulged in the appeasement policy for its vote bank. He said even today when Modi Government has tightened its noose on terrorism and its mentors across the border, the Congress leaders have become perturbed and have started finding faults with Modi Government’s anti terror policies. This will not work as the Congress and its leaders have been exposed before the masses, he added.
Later addressing a series of massively attended meetings at Block Mahala and Pariyot Khellani in Doda Assembly segment, followed by Rajgarh and Dessa in Ramban Assembly segment, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Modi Government has, in five years, tried to introduce a new political culture and work style based on justice and fair-play to all and reaching out to the most needy and deprived. Engaging in interaction with the enthusiastically applauding crowd in each meeting, he asked, when the free gas cylinder was delivered to the needy housewife under Ujjwala Yojana, did anyone ask whether the family was Hindu or Muslim, Brahmin or Scheduled Caste, or whether the family had voted for BJP or some other Party? The only consideration, he said, was the requirement.
Soon after the Modi Government took over, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Prime Minister had said that “we are here to run the country and not the Government”. And therefore, there was no place for nepotism, discrimination or family preferences, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, the opposition parties like Congress, National Conference (NC), PDP and others have got together and started a propaganda to stop Modi and BJP, whereas 130 crore people of this country want Modi and BJP.
In the erstwhile district of Doda, Dr Jitendra Singh said, five years of development is more than what happened in the last 65 years. He said, that over the last 40 years, Ramban and Doda districts have produced several important Ministers in Central and State cabinet, but it is in these five years that Ramban got three Degree Colleges in remote areas of Kastigarh, Pukhral and Batote. It is also in these five years, he said, that two bridges over river Chenab were started besides one Medical College at Doda, one Ayurvedic College at Kishtwar and National Institute of High Altitude Medicinal Plants at Bhaderwah. Similarly, he said, Kishtwar got the State’s biggest Power Project of 1000 MW Pakkal-Dul Project and Gandoh got its first-ever Post Office and a branch of State Bank of India. A new bridge at Ramban was approved besides two Kendriya Vidyalayas for remote Jodhpur and Gandoh.
It was also during these five years, Dr Jitendra Singh said, that Doda region got three tunnels, namely Chhattergalla, Sudh Mahadev Khellani and Kaljugar. The highest-ever package of Central Road Funds and Central PMGSY Funds was sanctioned and a network of roads and bridges has been established, with roads connecting even remote areas of Jodhpur, whereas earlier even the main road from Doda to Bhaderwah was in a shambles and subject to frequent landslides and blockades.
Accompanying Dr Jitendra Singh in these meetings were former Minister and MLA Doda, Shakti Parihar, former MLA Ramban, Neelam Langeh, district BJP president, Doda, Manjeet Razdan, district BJP president, Ramban, Ramesh Sharma, V.M. Thakur, Rashpal, Bharat Sharma BJYM National Executive member several prominent BJP leaders, Surpanchs and Panchs.
