JAMMU, Jan 25: The candidates seeking appointments in the Government departments on compassionate ground have accused the J&K Union Territory Administration of being apathetic to them as they are allegedly being made to wait for a considerable period of time to avail the benefit of the Government policy.

“For the last over one year, some of the files are gathering dust in the Chief Secretary office and there is no clarity what is policy of the Government towards such candidates,” said Gurpreet Singh, while addressing a press conference along with other candidates who have applied for engagement against SRO 43/120 of 1994, read with SRO 120 in the civil department.
He lamented that since the Governor’s rule was imposed and now under the Union Territory Administration, their files and pleas to the Government remain un-addressed. Though a few cases have already been settled by the Government, many of the files have not been taken so far and no decision is being taken,” Mr Singh said.
Pertinent to be mentioned here that as a human gesture, then Government in the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State had framed Compassionate Appointment Rules in the year 1994 and notified the same vide SRO-43.
These Rules apply to the compassionate appointment of a family member of Government employee, who dies in harness other than due to militancy related action and a Government employee who dies as a result of militancy related action.
“It is very unfortunate that several candidates have crossed the age limit and are suffering financial problems. Many candidates are facing financial constraints,” said Gurpreet Singh and appealed to the J&K UT Administration, led by Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to give due consideration to the issue as hundreds of youth were facing the problem.
