JAMMU: Amid chants of “Bam Bam Bhole”, the second batch of 5904 pilgrims left for the Shri Amarnath Cave Shrine from Yatri Niwas, Bhagwati Nagar base camp here on Tuesday.
The fleet of 242 vehicles ferrying pilgrims was escorted by CRPF personnel in jeeps and on motorbikes.
The pilgrims were comprised of 4661 males, 1115 females, 124 sadhus and four sadhvies.
However, for Pahalgam route, 2948 male, 631 females, 83 sadhus and three children left the base camp and for Baltal, 1713 male, 484 females, 42 sadhus left in buses and LMVs.
A total 242 vehicles left the base camp for both the routes including 103 HMVs, 138 LMVs and a two-wheeler.
The first batch was flagged off from here on Sunday by the Advisor to Governor K K Sharma.
Multi-tier security arrangements have been made for smooth and successful conduct of 46-day long Yatra concluding on August 15 on the occasion of Sharavan Purnima (Rakshabandhan). (AGENCIES)
