Thief arrested with stolen jewellery worth several lakhs

JAMMU, Feb 5: GRP Jammu arrested a thief and recovered stolen jewellery worth several lakhs of rupees from his possession.
As per police sources, on January 21, 2016, a report was lodged at police station GRP Jammu by Nishi Khurana, wife of Vikram Khurana, a resident of Noida, Uttar Pradesh stating that someone had stolen her bag containing jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 22 lakh, when she was traveling to Jammu in Sarai Rohila train from Delhi to meet her parents at Gandhi Nagar, here.
He added that a case under FIR Number 1/16 under Section 379 RPC was registered at police station GRP Jammu and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, various suspects from certain areas were interrogated and CCTV footage was closely monitored, SP said, adding that the Railway authorities were communicated to get the details of the passengers who were traveling in the said train.
Finally, police arrested the accused, who has been identified as Subhan Ali, son of Abdul Rehman of West Bengal, who was also travelling in the same train in which the theft took place.
On the disclosure of the accused, the stolen jewellery items worth Rs 22 lakh and Rs 15,000 cash were recovered.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by IO from GRP police station Bishan Singh and SHO GRP police station Neeraj Choudhary made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Railways Jammu Davinder Singh and SP Railways Suram Singh.
