Thief arrested, stolen gold items recovered

JAMMU, June 3: Sainik Colony police under Operation Meghdoot arrested a thief and stolen gold items were recovered from his possession.
As per police sources, on April 4, a complaint was lodged by Maheshwar Singh, son of Balbir Singh of Deeli, Sainik Colony stating that he along with his family members had gone to attend the function of their relatives and when they returned back found that some unknown persons had broken the locks of his house and stolen away the gold ornaments.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 44/17 under Sections 454 and 380 RPC was registered at police station Channi Himmat and investigation started.
During investigation, a person identified as Mehraj Din alias Javed, son of Mohammad Ramzan of Ghureka Tehsil Gandoh, District Doda was taken into custody for questioning.
During sustained questioning the accused admitted to have committed the crime and on his disclosure, the stolen items including 4 gold bangles, one necklace and one nath were recovered.
Further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain his involvement in other theft cases.
Police team led by SHO Channi Himmat Inspector Sajjad Mir and assisted by Incharge Sainik Colony police post SI Irfan Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Arun Jamwal and SP South Sandeep Choudhary.
