JAMMU, Oct 31: Channi Himmat police today worked out a theft at the residence of Dr Abhinav Kumar within 24 hours and recovered entire stolen amount to the tune of Rs 5.31 lakh.
SP City (South) Sandeep Choudhary told the Excelsior that police acted swiftly after getting report of the theft and arrested the accused within minimum possible time and made all the recoveries.
He said that special efforts were made to utilize the golden hours to identify the thief as soon as possible. During the CCTV analysis, one person was identified and further queries were made from family regarding that person.
On the basis of information provided by the family, the accused was identified as one Lovely S/o Jaspal Singh R/o Gurdaspur, Punjab. This person used to work as domestic help in the same house till recently.
“More technical analysis was done to understand the pattern of his movement. On the basis of this special teams led by SDPO East Arun Jamwal and SHO Channi Himmat Sajjad Mir were formed to nab the culprit. One team led by SI Balram Sharma was sent to Punjab immediately. This team nabbed the accused along with his associate namely Daniyal S/o Boota Masih R/o Gurdaspur and Rs 5,31,000 were recovered from their possession,” Choudhary said.
Entire operation was supervised by SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
Choudhary said that sincere efforts during golden hours after theft and utilization of CCTVs were instrumental in this recovery. He appealed to the general public to install CCTV cameras in their mohallas, shops and main roads. “CCTV cameras play key role in identifying culprits and become great deterrence to wrong-doers,” he asserted.
The SP emphasized on the importance of tenant and servant verification through nearest police stations.
“Proper background checks and verifications discourage criminals from implementing their designs. An aware citizen is definitely a safe citizen,” the SP South said and appealed to people to inform the nearest police station whenever they leave their houses unattended for long durations especially during holidays.
“As the wedding season is approaching, such awareness on part of people can help police prevent thefts and burglaries. It becomes pertinent to mention here that families leave their houses unattended during wedding seasons. Awareness on part of people as in keeping their precious jewelry in bank lockers and not keeping too much cash at home can keep people’s property safe,” Choudhary said.
