SAMBA, Feb 3: With the arrest of three individuals, police in Ghagwal area of Samba district claimed today they have solved a theft case, by recovering stolen items worth around Rs 2 lakh from their possession.
A police official said that a case was registered at Police Station Ghagwal after a complaint was filed by one Raman Singh of Chajarth, Hiranagar, district Kathua, on January 29, 2025.
He said the complainant reported that unknown persons had stolen two oxygen cylinders and other materials from Narsehian Stone Crushers, located near Rai Village in Ghagwal.
Following the complaint, the police official said that a case FIR number 18/2025 was registered at Police Station Ghagwal and investigation was set into motion.
Accordingly, a police team, led by SHO Ghagwal, rounded up two suspects.
During questioning, both suspects admitted to their involvement in the theft, he said. They were identified as Arun Sharma alias Rahul of Rattanpur Surara in Ghagwal and Jagdish Singh alias Fighter of Nagrota Gujru, Kathua.
The police official said that the vehicle used in the crime, a minibus (JK08A-9806), owned by Arun Sharma, was also seized.
He said further investigation revealed that the stolen property had been sold to scrap dealer, Palvinder Kumar, a resident of Adam Barwan, Pathankot (Punjab), who runs a shop near Amar National School in Marheen, Kathua.
While Kumar has been arrested and stolen items recovered from his shop, further investigations are underway, added the police official.
The case was worked out under the supervision of SSP Samba Varinder Manhas.
