THANE, Jan 3: Inaugurating a Road Safety Drive which starts from today and lasts upto January 17, Thane police commissioner Kris Pal Raghuvanshi said the traffic police personnel do not not get any pleasure in taking action against those who violate the traffic regulations.
He said, ‘the citizens here want the restaurants to be kept round the clock on the December 31 like the ones being done in foreign countries. But in India there is dearth of discipline, and I am sorry for it.’
He also said, citizens should adhere to discipline and follow traffic regulations which will reduce the burden on traffic policemen and prevent them from taking any action.
Dr Srikant Paropkari, the DCP traffic while welcoming the guests for the function said during the year 2013 the traffic department registered as many as 4,25,692 cases relating to violating of traffic regulations and collected fines to the tune of Rs 4,57,83,800.
‘There are around 1.40 lakh deaths on account of road accidents in the country,’ he pointed out.
He also informed that special parking provisions had been made at specific locations for senior citizens in the city.
A special facility ‘TRAFFLINE’ has been initiated which will automatically send a message to the relatives and friends about the location of a person who is in trouble based on his location, he said.
