JAMMU, Dec 20: Manor-anjan Kala Kendra’s presentation of Punjabi play ‘Terrorist Ki Premika’, emerged as a kind of damper to the tempo already built by the past two performances of the  ongoing annual Drama Festival 2017-18 at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
Though Manoranjan Kala Kendra, is one of the few groups dedicated to dramas in Punjabi language, it is the lack of proper theatre training platform in the winter capital which seems to have affected the performance of the first timers in the lead roles of today’s presentation. The green horns resorted to a monotonous high pitch in a bid to be effective in dialogue delivery, and also to extra-animated body language which robbed the reasonably topical script of its intended subtle import.
Written by Pali Bhupinder Singh, and directed by Tejinder Singh Premi, the play’s plot revolved around one Aneet, the wife of Dev Raj, DSP police posted in Kashmir. When Ajnabi, a terrorist enters DSP’s quarters with intention of killing the DSP, Aneet confronts him. Then he reveals that Dev Raj is a Machiavellian character who had arrested his girlfriend, raped and killed her. In order to get out of turn promotion, Dev had also killed an innocent man and later declared him as Ajnabi, the terrorist. Empathising with the loss of Ajnabi, Aneet forces Dev to reveal his real self and later poisons him.
The well laid out set design set, with levels and the window in the back wall was the saving grace as it created interest and also allowed the actors to move in different areas.
The cast included Chandan Khatri as Aneet, Sohan Verma as DSP Dev Raj, Mukesh Sharma as Ajanabi and Tejinder Singh Premi as Gurnam.
Tomorrow Amateur Theatre Group will present Hindi play Andhar Yatra under the direction of Sunil Sharma.
