Terror of thieves in Samba, 5 shutters broken overnight

SAMBA, Oct 16: Creating terror among the traders and general public in Samba town, some unknown thieves broke opened the shutters of five shops and also burgled a private office at the main market in the town here on National Highway near Bus Stand last night.
Sources said that the thieves who appeared to be three in number from the CCTV footage had covered their faces. They parked came in white Bolero vehicle and parked it near a Chemist shop just adjoining District Hospital Road and broke opened strong shutters of not one or two, but five shops and doors of a private company-Swastik Consultancy on the first floor of Sahil Bar and Restaurant on the Main Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at Samba.

The thieves decamped with goods and cash worth lakhs and had turned aside the faces of CCTV cameras at Bar and two other shops to hide themselves. From Satguru Electrical and Spares Parts shop they decamped with goods (copper wire and parts) worth Rs 5 lakhs and some cash, from Sahil Bar and Restaurant cash sale of the day, from Harsh Communications/ Airtel office goods/ speakers worth Rs 25000, from nearby computer shops Rs 6000 cash, from Mutual Fund office and Swastik Consultancy they lifted unaccounted cash and some electronic gadgets.
Interestingly, Highway Police Patrol vehicle was hardly 100 mts away from this site near a Dhaba during the night. At around 4.30 am when the nearby tea stall owner came to know about the matter this flying squad vehicle was still there. He informed all the theft victims. As per CCTV footage theft took place between 2 am and 3 am. The victims, when approached Police Flying Squad, the cops on duty claimed that they were not aware of the matter and this theft matter pertains to local Police Station.
The victims informed Samba Police. The police party led by SHO Sudhir Sadotra reached the spot along with his team after some time. The police has started investigation into the matter. The local traders expressed strong resentment over the attitude of Police Flying Squad and demanded action against them. They said theft cases are increasing day by day in Samba area but police has remained ineffective. Even at Bari Brahmana similar theft cases took place few weeks ago, but police could not solve case till today. They demanded effective policing to contain theft cases.
