India has nearly 4,000 km long border with China in Ladakh. We are talking of the Line of Actual Control and not the traditional border that existed during the days of Maharaja Hari Singh. China has not shown much interest in demarcating the border because it claims large chunks of territories, which are actually belong to India. In the past, there have been several instances when PLA soldiers sneaked into Indian Territory and tried to set up observation posts. On confrontation by Indian troops, they withdrew.
Recently about 90 personnel of the PLA intruded inside 500 meters of the LAC and tried to set up an observation post on Indian Territory. Indian forces have challenged and dismantled the structures they raised clandestinely. This is for the first time during Modi Government that Indian forces guarding the border have made a show of strength. So far, there is no official reaction from Beijing nor have the Chinese troops tried to rebuild the observation post at Burtse in Leh. The Chinese intended to build the post that would keep eye on the Karakorum Highway connecting Xingjian with Pakistan. We recall that Indian Air Force has a landing strip at Daulat Beg Oldi and China has not been happy with it as Indian Air Force landed a heavy aircraft carrier at this landing strip. We appreciate the vigilance of our forces on the border that disallowed China the illegal constructing of an observation post in Ladakh 500 meters inside our territory. We will not allow China to bully us and the stand taken by the Home Ministry on this issue is the right one.
