RAMBAN, July 29: A 16-year-old boy drowned while bathing in a stagnant pool on the embankments of Bishlari Nallah in the Rattanbass area of Banihal today.
According to police sources, the boy was bathing in the water stream when he suddenly slipped and drowned. Upon receiving the information, local residents, police personnel and volunteers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The body was retrieved and shifted to the mortuary of Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for medico-legal formalities.
The deceased was later identified as Asgar Hussain (16), son of Mohd Ashraf, a resident of Shabanbass in tehsil Banihal, district Ramban.
After completion of medical examination and necessary legal procedures, the body was handed over to the family members for last rites. Police have taken cognizance of the incident.
