Technology Park

Centre has sanctioned two Technology Parks, one in Jammu and the other at Ompora in Budgam district of the Valley are estimated to cost 150 to 200 crore rupees. Previous State Government did not respond with eagerness and despite the fact that land was identified at Ghatti (Kathua), Revenue Department did not move the right effort to hand it over to the Department of Technology.  Why the previous State Government underplayed the project is a mystery.
The Srinagar airport authorities have objected to the land identified for the Technology Park in Ompora stating that it is close to the airport and for security reasons not advisable to be given for the Park. Well, an alternative site can be found but why delay the transfer of Ghatti land to the Technology Department. Why the meeting of SIDCO chief, Director Industry and Director IIIM scheduled to be held some days back to take a decision on allotment of land to Science and Technology Department for establishment of the Technology Park at Kathua could not take place? Obviously, there is more in the entire matter than what meets the eye. Why there is such a lackadaisical attitude on the part of the officials when they know that establishment of a Technology Park will immensely contribute to the economic and industrial development of the State.
