Teachers without salaries

Sir,
This has reference to the editorial ‘Education Schemes botched’ (DE,Nov23,2015). It is,indeed, sad that 45000 teachers employed under  SSA have been working without salaries for the more than six months due to the apathetic and callous attitude of the concerned authorities. Time and again, the organisations of teachers have staged protest demonstrations to bring the sad plight of these teachers to the notice of the concerned notice of the state government but in vain. One wonders as to why should the teachers suffer for no fault of theirs. But it is unfortunate that the teachers have been forced to bear the brunt by not paying them their salaries for more than half a year. One can imagine the hard times through which the teachers must be passing in these times of skyrocketing prices even of essential commodities. This callous attitude of the government has forced the affected teachers to go on mass strike.Obviously, it is the hapless students who are likely to suffer the most due to the strikes of the teacher and their career is at stake. The government ought to talk to the agitating teachers and explore some way out to find an amicable solution to the vexed issue and take steps to get the pending funds released by the Union HRD Ministry so that the outstanding amount of salary is paid to the teachers and the students do not get  affected adversely. Similarly, the other demands of the teachers such as release of funds for Mid Day Meal Scheme, regularisation of ReTs who have served for more than five years also need to be looked into and conceded. The Government should go ahead in verifying the degrees and certificates of the teachers and terminate the services of those found guilty of producing fake degrees but at the same time pay them their legitimate and pending salaries so that they can discharge their duties in a tension free manner and don’t resort to extreme steps such as strikes and the future of the students is not affected.
Yours etc….
