JAMMU, Sept 2: To discuss the issue regarding release of pending dues under Mid Day Meal Scheme, an emergent meeting of the members of Central Core Committee of Teachers Guild Jammu and Kashmir was held at its headquarter, here today.
The meeting was presided over by Nasir Ahmed Qureshi, State president of Teachers Guild Jammu & Kashmir and attended by M S Choudhary, Mohd Farooq Faraz Qureshi, Charanji Lal, Narayan Baru and representatives of zonal units.
Nasir Ahmed Qurashi said it is unfortunate that the pending liabilities under Mid Day Meal Scheme have not been cleared so far. He said that as per the information available with Teachers Guild, the funds under Mid Day Meal Scheme have not been released since July 2014. As a result, the teachers dealing with MDM are suffering badly and the heads of the institutions are facing great difficulties in continuation of MDM, he added and showed serious concern over this delay.
Mr Qureshi urged the Education Minister Naeem Akhtar, MoS Education Priya Sethi, Dr Shah Faisal, Director School Education Kashmir and Sumita Sethi, Director School Education Jammu to personally intervene in the matter and take necessary steps to ensure early release of funds so that the liabilities could be cleared at an earliest and the teachers dealing with MDM as well as the DDOs may come to minimize their sufferings. He expressed sympathy with the cooks under MDM for preparing meals without receiving any honorarium for the last one and a half year.
Vijay Kumar Sharma, State general secretary of the Teachers Guild, said that it is slackness on part of the concerned authorities of planning department that there is no proper system for early submission of Mid Day Meal proposals and Utilization Certificates. He warned that the teachers dealing with MDM would be forced to stop providing MDM in schools due to the reason that the loans out of local funds/debits of shopkeepers have crossed lakhs of rupees.
