JAMMU, Dec 18: An urgent meeting of Teachers Guild Jammu & Kashmir was held here today, under the chairmanship of its State president  Nasir Ahmed Qurashi for highlighting burning issues of the School Education Department.
The meet deliberated upon various issues and demands, particularly deputation of teachers for regular B Ed  trainings, which has not been ordered for the last two years..
In his presidential address Nasir Ahmed Qurashi said that it was a past routine that in-service Government teachers were deputed by the Directorate of School Education for B Ed  in Govt  PG College of Education , but for the last two three years, no such deputation has been ordered in Jammu division and teachers are being deprived off a chance to enhance their competencies and capabilities which shall result in their stagnation for further promotion also.
He pointed out that  in Kashmir division the situation was different.  “It is unfortunate that there are two yard sticks at divisional level in the same State under one Government,” he rued  and  informed that the Government PG College of Education Jammu had taken the matter with School Education Department but no decision has been taken yet and in-service teachers are not being deputed since the B Ed. course has been extended from one year to two years.
Vijay Kumar Sharma, State general secretary of Teachers Guild Jammu & Kashmir said that it is a failure on part of education authorities to decide the issue of B Ed  programme for in-service Government teachers. He said many teachers were told to be deputed for capsule course through IGNOU  Jammu in one go but the same has not been done practically.
Mohan Singh Choudhary, general secretary Teachers Guild,  appealed to the Commissioner Secretary School Education and Director School Education Jammu to look into the matter and provide chances to Government teachers for enhancement of their professional qualifications and pedagogical skills. Narayan Baru, Programme Coordinator of Teachers Guild, said that if there is any problem in deputation of teachers for B Ed,   than Education Department should allow its teachers for appearing in such course from study centres of any recognized university of the country without any departmental permission.
