SRINAGAR, Aug 4: Following State Government’s decision of conducting screening test compulsory for all those Rehber-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers who have obtained their degrees through distance mode, the teachers’ have strongly objected to the decision and issued separate protest calendars across the Jammu and Kashmir.
Before Government’s decision, the High Court directed screening test of all those ReT teachers who have obtained their degrees from outside State.
ReT teachers have also announced lockout strike and protests on August 5 and 6 against the Government’s decision of screening.
Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers Forum, Farooq Ahmad Tantray, told Excelsior that they are not against the court order. “But, the Education Department is misinterpreting the court order. The court order is not for working teachers but for those who have obtained their degrees from outside. This order doesn’t apply on everyone,” he said.
He termed the Government decision as humiliation of teachers and demanded its roll back.
“Tomorrow on August 5, there would state-wide lockout and protests against the decision. On August 6, there would be only lockout,” he added.
Meanwhile, senior trade union leader and TF chairman, Abdul Qayoom Wani slammed the government decision and said that the teachers’ would oppose it tooth and nail.
He said that the teachers across the Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh would observe a strike onAugust 6 and black flags would be hoisted on schools. Wani further said that on August 7, the teachers would hold protests in district headquarters across the state.
The TF chairman warned of state-wide agitation if government doesn’t revoke its decision.
