JAMMU, Aug 27: Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change GoI jointly with Indian Environment Society, New Delhi and Centre for Environment Education and Training, J&K, in collaboration with Director School Education Jammu organized two days Teacher Trainers Workshop at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) Jammu.
Advisor EE Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. C.M. Seth an expert environmentalist, Dr. Desh Bandhu President IES, Dr. R.K. Garg (Retd) Professor Botany, Udaipur and Prof. Vishal Bector of Ludhiana Agriculture University were the expert resource persons.
Thirty teachers from Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Kathua, Doda and Kishtwar districts representing each education zone, attended the workshop. Master Trainers trained teachers in their zones to undertake Global environment studies in their schools and also trained the students.
Chief guest informed that the programme for training the teachers in the teaching and learning methodologies for environment education in schools is being implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change GoI for the last more than 15 years in all the States. He informed that the programme is supported by the Public Affairs Section of the American Embassy in India. Programme is exclusively meant for the capacity building of teachers for teaching environment education in government schools, he added.
Dr. Desh Bandhu informed the participants that GLOBE programme is being implemented in more than 120 countries globally. He said that in last fifteen years GLOBE programme has trained 58000 teachers in 24000 schools and covered about 1.5 million students. In India it is being implemented in 21 States, he added.
Dr. Seth said that the Ministry of Environment Forests and Climate Change GoI, in order to build the capacity of teachers in environment education and awareness of society for environment conservation, is implementing its flagship programmes like National Green Corps, National Environment Awareness Campaign, Nature Camps and the GLOBE programme in all the states. He said that we should take full benefit of these schemes and the new concepts in teaching and learning techniques of environment education in schools and colleges.
Expert speakers delivered lectures on teaching and learning techniques on four protocols of Earth, Water, Air and Biodiversity. In the end all participants were distributed with Global monitoring kits, resource material and the certificates.
