TC orders probe, DC bans picnics

JAMMU, June 28: A day after 11 students lost their lives in a tragic road accident near Peer Ki Gali on Mughal Road, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav banned picnics by all the private institutions and Government Schools in district Poonch while Transport Commissioner has ordered inquiry into issuance of route permit and fitness certificate to the ill-fated vehicle.
Official sources said that Transport Commissioner today directed the Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Dhanantar Singh to hold inquiry into the matter related to expiry of route permit of the Tempo Traveller No. JK-12/ 3475, issuance of the permit and the fitness certificate besides probe the reasons which led to the road accident.
Assistant Transport Commissioner, Swarn Singh said that RTO Jammu has been directed by the TC, Mr Vaid to conduct thorough inquiry into the matter and submit the report to the Government within 15 days.
Meanwhile, in a surprising attempt to contain road accidents in the district, Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav in an order issued today, banned excursions/ picnics in the district.
The DC’s order said, ” All the Government and recognized private schools up to Higher Secondary level, are directed not to leave/ go for excursion/ picnic, unless and until granted prior permission from the competent authority.”
It is pertinent to mention here that 11 persons including 9 girl students of a private computer centre at Surankote were killed and seven others injured when a Tempo Traveller rolled down into nearly 400 ft deep gorge near Pir Ki Gali on Mughal Road on Thursday.
