This has reference to the State Budget prosecuted by the Finance Minister Abdul Rashim Rather for the year 2013-14 in which he extended tax relief to tourism sector. Reducing VAT on etable items available in hotels and resturants is a step in right direction as it will allow tourists and pilgrims taste food without bringing tears as they would be required to pay less.
The hotliers across the length and breadth of the State had been receiving complaints from visitors that the food served here costs more than any other part of the country. At times it would create embarrassing situations both for the customers and the hotliers.
It may not be out of context to mention here that Tourism industry plays an important role in economy of the State. This is the sector which provides numerous jobs to the people of the State. It should be our endeavour to strengthen it more and more whatever be the loopholes should be plugged at the earliest.
Emphasis should be laid oncreating tourism infrastructure in the State.
