Tax professionals have key role to play in new era of reforms: CJ

JAMMU, Feb 24: Jammu Tax Conference organized by All India Federation of Tax Practitioners North Zone and Tax Bar Association Jammu was held here today.
The main objective of the conference was to discuss the “Role of Tax Professionals and Practitioners” into direct and indirect taxes after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax.
The conference was inaugurated by Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed by lighting the traditional lamp in the presence of AIFTP (NZ) National President Ganesh Purohit, Secretary General Pankaj Ghiya and Tax Bar Association President Advocate Sunil Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice emphasized on the role of tax professionals in the new era of tax reforms in India. He put more stress on the role and working of Advocates in the society to help people navigate the constantly evolving taxation system.

“The development of a health Tax Bar in Jammu and holding of tax conference indicates that the city is doing well financially”, he further said, adding “it is an indication that Jammu is developing as a commercial hub”. He hoped that similar events will also be held in Srinagar to develop Tax Bar in both capital cities.
The Technical Session of the conference was chaired by Senior Advocate Delhi High Court Prem Lata Bansal, who emphasised on the technical issues and solution in front of professionals in the new era of technology.
Thereafter, there was a penal discussion on certain topics like current amendments as proposed by Finance Bill 2018, Reopening & Reassessment and Penalties Prosecution under Income Tax Act 1961. The panelists for this discussion were AK Srivastava – FCA Delhi, Arvind Shukla-Advocate Varanasi and VP Gupta-Advocate Delhi.
There was also panel discussion on the role of tax consultants in the new era of GST besides there was discussion on the topic ITC – Restrictions including cautions and E-way Bills.
Nitika Badheka Advocate Mumbai was the chairperson for this session and the panelists were DK Gandhi-Advocate Ghaziabad, Mukul Gupta- Advocate Ghaziabad, Pankaj Ghiya-Advocate Jaipur.
On the occasion, President TBA Jammu Advocate Sunil Sharma said that these types of conferences in the life of professionals are very important to get more exposures and most important they got global platform to discuss about their issues and problems being faced and numerous solutions towards them.
The conference proceedings were conducted by Advocate Sachin Sharma and Advocate Gagan Aneja. The vote of thanks was delivered by Senior Advocate V K Grover and Advocate Vinod Nagpal.
The dignitaries who were present on the occasion included SK Sharma, Additional Commissioner Income Tax Jammu, Anu Malhotra, Additional Commissioner (Admin) Commercial Taxes Department Jammu, Ruveda Salam and Manzoor Ahmed Shah, Assistant Commissioner Income Tax Jammu.
