WASHINGTON, Oct 3: The Tata group of companies has gifted some 15,000 new books to students from low-income families in Washington DC as part of its continued partnership with First Book, an award-winning nonprofit organisation which provides new books to such children.
“Promoting children’s literacy has long been an area of focus for Tata in North America. We are glad to encourage reading throughout Washington, DC,” said Kapil Sharma, senior General Manager North America, Tata Sons.
“As the children begin another school year, we hope our contributions continue to build self-confidence, and help them find lasting joy in reading and learning,” Sharma said after an event in this regard held at Savoy Elementary School in Washington DC.
Since partnering with First Book in December 2007 Tata has distributed more than 150,000 books valued at well over USD 1.2 million to children across the United States. (PTI)
