Tarigami strongly advocates for passage of KP Shrines Bill

JAMMU, Apr 1: Strongly advocating for passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill, CPI (M) MLA Mohammed Yousuf Tarigami today urged the Government to take early steps in constituting a Shrine Board for the protection of religious places of Pandits in Kashmir valley.
The member while raising the issue during Zero Hour wanted to know what is the status of the KP Temples Bill, which was long back tabled in the House? He said the Government should end dispute if any and have a consensus on the constitution of the Board. He demanded the Board be constituted as early as possible for the protection of religious places of Pandits in Valley and the Government should bring the Bill immediately as community is concerned for the same.
It may be recalled that there is a brewing resentment among the Kashmiri Pandits over the delaying tactics adopted by the State Government on the Shrines Bill which in principle had since agreed to constitute a Shrine Board for the protection of Hindu Shrines in Valley.
The present Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather as Opposition Leader had brought the Bill for protection of Hindu Shrines in Valley and had made a strong argument in support of the same on the floor of the Assembly. But the Bill was later withdrawn by him after the then Coalition Government of PDP and Congress had assured to bring the official Bill in this regard as Government was itself concerned for the same.
Later the Government brought an official Bill but it was not taken for passage and its fate is not known. This has generated a lot of resentment among the community which has held protest demonstrations hunger strikes and even some of its leaders resorted to fast unto death for the passage of the Bill but every time the Government gave false assurances, said Ashok Kangan a K P leader.
