JAMMU, Jan 25: Expressing solidarity with protesting workers engaged by the CAPD Department for loading and un-loading of food-grains, CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has demanded fixation of price index after regular intervals and release of pending wages in favour of labourers working in Muffasil depots.
In a statement issued here, Tarigami sought personal intervention of Governor NN Vohra to mitigate the sufferings of these workers who are craving for fixation of price index after every 6 months which has not been fixed after 2012.
CPI Legislator said that workers engaged for loading /un-loading of food grains constitute the backbone of the CAPD Department and their welfare must be a top priority of the Government.
“The CAPD should revise the bag rates as per price index with retrospective effect and should go for this process after every six months along with the revision of stitching, weight and height charges and release of arrears after these revisions,” Tarigami demanded, adding that the Government should grant Lead Charges of City supply.
“The CAPD should take action on the list of lead which has already been provided to it by food and allied workers. Besides the department should pay monthly wages to all the workers by 10th of each month as is demanded by the workers union,” he maintained.
The CPI (M) leader took exception to cold shoulder approach adopted by the CAPD towards these workers and sought release of their pending payments without any further delay.
“The CAPD should also implement pension scheme to the workers after retirement as is prevalent in FCI for its workers. The CAPD should also go for replacement of workers who have quit since long for the smooth functioning of the stores,” Tarigami demanded.
The CPI (M) leader urged the Governor to direct the CAPD authorities for redressal of the genuine grievances of the protesting workers or otherwise any delay can create unnecessary inconvenience to the general public.
