JAMMU, Mar 12: Castigating the administration for its ill preparedness to receive the expected snowfall as was already predicted by Metrological Department, CPI (M) State Secretary, MY Tarigami said the tall claims made by the authorities about their alertness have been deflated by the massive power break-down, road blockades, damages to water supply lines, scarcity of ration, water logging and other difficulties faced by the people in Kashmir.
In a statement issued, Tarigami said that although a heavy snowfall is not something new to the State, but the administration seems resistant to change its rusty work culture despite the tall claims made by every successive Governments for the last over five decades.
Tarigami asked the administration to expedite the restoration of power supply in the Valley especially Srinagar city where the people have been reeling under biting cold in absence of alternative heating arrangements.
“Most of the areas in North, South and Central Kashmir are yet to see the electricity and snow clearance from the roads”, Tarigami said.
He asked the Government to compensate the bereaved families and constitute committee to assess the losses due to snowfall in the Valley.
CPI (M) leader asked the administration to act swiftly to offset hardships faced by the people in the wake of snowfall in Valley.
He said the Disaster Management Committees at Divisional and district levels need to be operationalized to set the affected public delivery system back on rails.
He urged the Government to ensure that there is no chaos for scarcity of essential commodities including LPG, kerosene oil, drinking water, sugar and ration. The medical services, especially emergency services should be monitored, besides, the damaged power distribution lines be immediately repaired to ensure a better power supply in the valley”, he demanded.
