If I am talented my work will speak for itself, says Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu

MUMBAI: Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu Dassani is all set to make his Bollywood debut with the action comedy, “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota”, and the actor says he never used his mother’s name to get work.
Coming from a film family, there is always a notion that star kids benefit from having an easy access to filmmakers. But Abhimanyu says that was not the case with him as not many people knew him.
“Our parents have kept us away from all this. I do not know anyone here. I am happy I got my debut film on my own. I gave 30 rounds of auditions for this film. On the first day when I went I did not get the chance to give audition and the same thing happened on the second day as well.
“Third day I went with my martial arts trainer and that’s when I got to give my first ever audition. After that there was a month long audition process where I got selected,” Abhimanyu said.
Abhimanyu reveals it was only when he was shortlisted in the top ten, the team got to know that he is Bhagyashree’s son.
“When I was signing the film, that time it was with Phantom Films and the executive producer called Tanvi and told me that why I did not tell them that I am Bhagyashree’s son. This I had done deliberately. I believe if I am talented enough my work will speak for itself. I don’t need to throw names.”
He signed “Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota”, directed by Vasan Bala, when it was with Phantom Films two years ago and started shooting in November last year.
His debut film has been selected to be premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and Abhimanyu says he could not have asked for anything more.
“I am feeling happy, proud and honoured. This is the first film that has got into Midnight Madness section of the festival. It is an amazing opportunity that we have received.”
Describing the film as a coming-of-age story, Abhimanyu says, it is about following your dreams, whether you are a six-year-old or a 60-year-old.
The film has lot of action and the debutante did train in martial arts, boxing, gymnastics and weapon training among other things.
“I spent nine months on training for the film. It is an action-comedy film and it is different from what Bollywood has ever seen. It is a real fight, hand-to-hand combat.”
Since it was his first film, everyday was a new adventure for Abhimanyu.
“Before I started shooting, I disconnected from everyone and went into solitude. I used to only talk on work related things. I am new in this industry, haven’t been associated with it so it was all a new learning experience.” (AGENCIES)
