SRINAGAR, Oct 17: The house of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) worker Mohammad Ramzan, who was killed last night by militants, was set ablaze by a mob today in Shopian district of South Kashmir.

Around 200 youth from Trenz village of Shopian district after completing last rites of Showkat Falahi, a Hizb militant, killed last night in a scuffle after militants killed Ramzan, marched to Homun village of Nagbal in Shopian and set the house of the PDP worker on fire.
The youth first sprinkled petrol on the house of the slain PDP worker and then set it on fire. The house and two cow sheds were gutted in the blaze and police immediately reached the spot.
The family of Ramzan had fled away in the morning after completing his last rites. However, two members of the family who had stayed back took shelter in the village before Police took them along after the mob fled. Police have registered a case and are investigating it.
Three militants, including Falahi, fired upon Ramzan at his home in Homun village of Nagbal last night around 8 pm. Falahi was killed in a scuffle and family fears for their lives and fled the village in the morning.
And the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Victor Force Major General B S Raju today said on the sidelines of a function in Anantnag district that security forces are tacking decisive action against the militants so that peace returns to the area.
“Our main aim is to take decisive action against the militancy so that common masses and students don’t face any hurdle in their routine work. If we go with the speed with which we were going then hopefully peace will return soon in this area”, he said.
In the meantime, security forces today cordoned off Parray Mohalla of Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. However, the operation was called off after youth pelted stones on security force personnel during the operation.
The operation was launched in the wee hours in Parray Mohalla Hajin area in wee hours after receiving inputs of the presence of militants in the area.
As the security forces personnel were laying siege around the area, youth threw stones at the security forces and they fired teargas to disperse them triggering clashes. The operation was later called off.
