Take joint stand on Kashmir issue, Soz to mainstream parties

SRINAGAR, Sept 18: Urging mainstream political parties to take a joint stand on ” Kashmir issue”, former union minister and senior Congress leader Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz today said current situation in the Valley was very critical.
“In recent times, I went wrong on two occasions one, when I described Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s narrative around the visit of All Party Parliamentary Delegation to Kashmir as conducive to the Dialogue-Process and for sensitising PM Modi’s mind on Kashmir.
In a statement here this afternoon, Congress leader said, “The second time my calculation failed me was when I assessed that RSS/BJP had started responding to the unrest in Kashmir. This assessment was based on RSS/BJP senior functionary Ram Madhav’s statement that ‘even Moon could be offered to Kashmir within the constitution of India’.
Now, Kashmiris should realise what is what? Ram Madhav, who is also BJP General Secretary, Incharge J&K State, has revealed what he thinks during an interview to a private national television channel. He had said BJP’s position on the question of autonomy was clear and there was no change in that.
He also refused to give a straight answer when asked about his ‘Moon’ comment. Mr Soz said to another question that if PDP raised the question on expansion of autonomy, Mr Madhav it (the PDP) would be told that BJP had a consistent stand on this question.
The interview left me in no doubt that Mr Madhav’s latest position indicates contradictions that might have developed between the BJP and the RSS.
He said, ”I felt as if a dove had changed the position to appear to be a hawk, due to inner contradictions. Let it be, as it may.” “I reiterate my plea that it is high time at this critical moment in Kashmir that the mainstream parties, including NC, Congress, PDP, CPM, PDF and DNP make their stand clear on the Kashmir question and tell the three stakeholders (among others) Hurriyat, Government of India and Government of Pakistan in clear terms as to what they should do under the present circumstances.
The current critical situation urges it (the mainstream) to perform this duty.”
