JAMMU, Mar 26: Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes & Backward Classes Development Corporation, Vice Chairperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, today said the financial assistance availed from the Corporation should be utilized properly to earn livelihood and become self reliant.
While handing over Payment Authority Letters (PALs) to two physically disabled unemployed young males- Rajeev Kumar with 45 per cent disability and Sukhdev Singh with 55 per cent disability, who got loan of Rs two lakh each for setting up small units, Balbir said that in today’s world, the definition and meaning of the expression has altogether changed for people with any disability whether it is from their birth or afflicted during any mishap.
He said gone are the days when people would think that if you have a disability, you shouldn’t associate yourself with anything which normal people can do. With more and more cases of disability ridden people competing or performing better than normal people in respective fields, it has become abundantly clear that they cannot be disqualified for this shortcoming.
Balbir said that the disabled people are moving ahead and competing with normal people in all spheres of life. He further said it is for the people of all ages and communities with disabilities to shun their inhibitions and feelings of inferiority to come forward, avail the benefits from Government and other agencies, to start own work for a dignified living. This they should take up as a challenge and resolve that they have to excel like others, Balbir added.
Divisional Manager, Gulam Qadir Khatana, Manager Projects Mohd. Iqbal Kataria, District Manager Joginder Paul Atri and Field Supervisor Jatinder Singh were also present on the occasion.
