SRINAGAR, Oct 17: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today reviewed the status of drinking water supply and irrigation facilities in Handwara constituency at a high level meeting of engineers and officers.
Former Minister and MLA, Handwara, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan also attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the status and pace of completion of drinking water and irrigation projects in the whole area.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister asked the engineers to converge all flood protection works with MGNREGA to cover maximum area under flood protection to avoid losses to property and crops. He asked the Irrigation Department to prepare projects to irrigate orchards and karewa lands in the area.
The meeting was told that with the completion of new additional filtration plant, the drinking water needs of Handwara town would not only be met but also be surplus for its population.
Mr. Taj asked the engineers to put Rajwar water supply scheme under NRDWP for funding and starting the work. He also asked for rationalization of schemes so that every area of the constituency is benefitted from these schemes.
Commissioner-Secretary, PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, B. D. Sharma, Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir, A. M. Lanker, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, Kashmir, Javed Jaffari, SEs, XEns and other senior officers and engineers were present in the meeting.
