Taj meets Sonia on drug scam

JAMMU, Apr 30: Senior Congress leader and Minister for Medical Education, Sports & Youth Services (J&K) Taj Mohi-ud-Din met the All India Congress Committee president and UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi in the Union capital today and apprised her of the recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir over the issue of spurious and sub-standard drugs in the State.
Sources close to the Medical Education Minister told the Excelsior that Mr Taj, who is in the Union capital for the last couple of days met the AICC president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi this morning at around 9.45 am. During nearly 22-minute meeting, Mr Taj apprised Ms Gandhi of the situation prevailing in Kashmir after spurious and sub-standard drugs scam came to the fore.
Ms Gandhi, who was unaware of the developments on spurious drugs in Kashmir taking serious note of the issue, said that she would seek secret inquiry into the whole matter as the issue was connected with the precious human lives.
Mr Taj also presented a booklet to the UPA chairperson highlighting his (Taj’s) achievements as PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister during last over three years. He specifically, made mention of generating revenue to the tune of over Rs 1000 crore annually for the State from water tax, claiming water share of river Ravi from Punjab conceiving a power project besides an irrigation water canal from Ranjit Sagar dam, creation of Jammu artificial lake to attract lakhs to pilgrim tourists moving to Mata Vaishnodevi and Shri Amarnath shrine, Wullar barrage project etc.
The AICC leader was highly impressed with the achievements of the party minister and showed keen interest in going through the achievements. She assured the senior party leader from Kashmir to take cognizance of the matter and issue necessary directions in this regard keeping in view larger interest of the party and coming assembly elections. She said that party was supreme and blame game will only damage the organization and she will not allow it to happen.
