SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today laid on the table of the House a copy of the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management Amendment) Ordinance, 2012 as required under Section 91 of the Constitution of J&K.
Later, the Minister introduced the Bill in the House. to amend Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act, 2010.
In the statement of objects and reasons, the Minister said that the State is starved of adequate funding for the utilization of full power as well as irrigation potential in the State. The water usage charges realized as well as future realization from the power producing agencies will be utilized for establishment of Hydel Projects, Hydro Electric Projects, Multipurpose Hydro Electric Projects and buying back Hydro Electric Power Projects already established in the State, besides for the capital investment in electric transmission and distribution network within the territory of the State with the prior approval of Government.
