SRINAGAR, Jan 15: Director General of Police, RR Swain, asserted today that the Special Police Officers (SPOs) are diligently performing their duties, and initiatives are in progress at the institutional level to regularise their services, particularly for those demonstrating exceptional performance.
The police chief made these statements during a public darbar in Kupwara, where he expressed awareness of the challenges faced by the families of the SPOs.
Swain assured that efforts were underway to provide necessary assistance within their capacity. “We are completely aware of this issue, and SPOs are a part of our family, working shoulder to shoulder. We would like to do whatever we can within our capacity. The loans provided to police families also include SPOs and scholarships for children are extended to them,” he said.
The DGP emphasised that efforts at the institutional level for regularisation of SPOs, with a focus on those who exhibit superior performance are on. “In between, we take certain measures. We are discussing this at our level. Continuous efforts are being made to provide the best for the soldiers. Noteworthy contributors are undergoing regularization efforts,” he added.
Regarding the decision to relocate Darbar from Srinagar, the DGP explained that it was made to actively engage with the public, promptly address their grievances, and provide immediate relief.
Highlighting the importance of police-public relationships, Swain said: “Many officers have told me that they cannot work without people. We keep in mind that the police are a service, and our actions are not against the people but for the troublemakers. We leave those who are at the lowest tier, and we are after the main conspirators who are trying to disturb peace.”
