SVO nabs Agriculture official

SRINAGAR, Sept 28: State Vigilance Organization (SVO) today caught red handed Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Agriculture Extension Worker, Agriculture Sub-Division Kakpora Pulwama while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 6000.
A spokesman of the Vigilance Organization said that one Ghulam Qadir Bhat, son of Wali Mohammad Bhat of Jagir Parigam, Pulwama lodged a written complaint mentioning that to avail the benefit of Saffron Mission scheme recently introduced by the Government he cultivated saffron on two kanals of land.
In order to process his case to avail benefit of Rs 26,000 per kanal for cultivation of saffron under the scheme, the complainant approached Agriculture Extension Worker of Agriculture Sub-Division Kakpora Pulwama namely Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Gundipora Pulwama. However, the accused official demanded Rs 15000 as bribe.
After great persuasion, the matter was settled at an amount of Rs 6000, which was to be paid to the accused today. On the receipt of the complaint, Vigilance Organization registered FIR No.26/2012 under Prevention of Corruption Act and 161 RPC and started investigation.
During the course of investigation, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and the accused official was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting phenolphthalein dusted amount of Rs 6000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witness. The tainted money was recovered and the accused was taken into custody for further investigation.
