Srinagar, June 3: State Vigilance Commission, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Vigilance Commissioner, has asked Chief Enforcement Officer, Srinagar Municipal Corporation to appear in person on June 14 to complete the enquiry of a case pending with the Commission for action.
Earlier, the Commission had received a complaint from Imtiyaz Ahamd Fashoo alleging that one Nazir Ahmad has constructed a building at Urdu Bazar, Srinagar in violation of building permission granted by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in connivance and conspiracy with SMC officials, who instead of initiating any action to stop the deviation allowed violator to raise the building. The complainant had also alleged that he had informed the ward officer concerned telephonically about the violation but the officer denied inspecting the site.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Commission sought a report from SMC, which revealed that no action has been taken against the violator by the Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) despite getting information from the ward officer concerned about the deviation.
On the basis of the evidence which has come forth, it gets revealed that the Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, despite having been informed by his subordinate ward officer about the violation did not take required action for demolition of the structure constructed in violation of sanctioned plan.
Accordingly, the Commission decided to call CEO of the Corporation to explain the reasons for not initiating timely action to stop the violation besides the omissions and commissions in the discharging his duties.
