JAMMU, Aug 20: Former president of J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA), MK Bhardwaj today called for the immediate suspension of the Sarore Toll Plaza till National Highway is restored fully.
Addressing a press conference here today, Bhardwaj said that the people should not be made to suffer as the National Highway right from Satwari to Lakhanpur is in very bad condition. He said that the Highway is in dilapidated condition and need immediate repairing while service lines too are not in good condition. He said that travelling through the National highway and the service lines has become time consuming and the commuters are facing problems while covering even small distances.
For what should people pay toll when there is no proper road facility, Bhardwaj questioned. He said that people are facing many problems due to the present condition of roads and still people are made to pay the Toll, which is not justified at this juncture. The NHAI should provide alternate safe and smooth roads to the public, which is mandatory condition in all the tender works of the roads, he added.
“Toll is charged when Government provides good roads like expressways to the public but here people are paying toll tax for roads that are in dilapidated condition. The NHAI should make sure that it is providing the smooth roadways and then only charge the tax at the Plaza,” Bhardwaj asserted and added that people should unite and forced the Government to suspend the Sarore Toll plaza till the NH widening and construction work is fully completed.
He said if the NHAI does not suspend the functioning of Sarore Toll Plaza, they along with other associations will demonstrate at Sarore Toll Plaza and even give call for Jammu Bandh. He underscored that the suspension of the Sarore Toll Plaza would alleviate the burdens currently borne by commuters and facilitates their movement until the restoration of the NH is realized.
