Suspects give slip to police, searches launched in Rajouri

JAMMU : Search operations have been launched in the forest area after two suspects gave slip to a police party in Chingus area of Rajouri district, a police official here said.
“In view of first phase of Lok Sabha polls for Jammu-Poonch constituency to be held tomorrow, security has been beefed up in the area,” a senior police official here today said.
He said a car bearing the registration number of Jammu district was intercepted this morning at a check point for frisking in Chingus area of Rajouri, but the driver gave a slip and escaped from the spot.
“They were chased by the police party,” he said, adding that the car was later found abandoned at a nearby forest  area.
“Search operation has been launched in the forest area,” the official said, adding that some documents and a packet containing powder were recovered from the car.    “The vehicle has been seized,” he said and added that Rajouri Police have contacted the Jammu Police and found that the vehicle was reportedly stolen, but no FIR has been registered in this regard.
“Search operation is in progress and the matter is being investigated,” said the police official. (AGENCIES)
